Considerable ■ interest in • Tasmanian shipping and commercial circles'is centred on the action that is-being taken in New Zealand to have restored the Melbourne-Hobart-Blnff service. The Hobart Chamber of Commerce has approached the Marine Board, with a view to joint action being taken in an attempt to urge the shipping companies concerned to have the service resumed as soon as possible. It has been said by a leading Hobart business man that the withdrawal of the service was another of the unfortunate consequences of the Navigation Act. Boats trading between Melbourne and the Bluff did not come within the purview of the Act, but if they included Hobart as a port of call extensive- structural alterations had to bo made. The regular service had been very valuable, and the present spasmodic one was not nearly so serviceable. It is also pointed out that the present fortnightly service was a reversion to Hie days of fifty years ago. WHANGAPE FROM SYDNEY.
