SATURDAY’S SOCCER

KNOCK-OUT COMPETITION. The conditions at Culling Park were ideal for a good display of Soccer—perfect weather, a good sward, and two willing teams. However, shortly after play .commenced it became evident that the SeadifE team were an even stronger combination than that which defeated Mornington on the same ground last Saturday. The game, nevertheless, was interesting enough to the end. Maori Hill commenced, as usual, with its flashes of speed and good kicking. Balk, unfortunately, was getting neglected. Very little, of any importance came his way. He was practically lost all through the first half, most of his supports being always out of position, and distinctly ragged in their kicking. Seaoliff soon sensed their opportunities. Long range, solid deliveries by the Anderson brothers kept the visiting forwards well up, and Hooper opened the scoring. SeadifE, 1-0. The hill team was now getting broken up all over the field. The forwards were all “to pieces,” though fast and willing enough. Little useful play came Balk’s way. From neat work by Campbell Hooper again found the net. Seacliff, 2-0. There was no further score at half-time. On resuming the hill came on gamely again, lacking speed and trickiness, however. Both the Frasers were still very prominent for the hill. “ Sandy ” centred frequently, only to see the ball delivered well back by Anderson. Balk secured two shots that missed, and followed them up later with others that went wide. Hooper as centre for the visitors was their outstanding feature, and once again sent in a shot that gave Bauchop no chance. It was a fast, • clever shot. Seadiff 3, Maori Hill 0. That ended the score. Mr Hollyman controlled the game. Hooper, who did all the scoring, was produced by Seacliff for the first time this season.
