WAS IT PLANNED?
MURDER OF AN ACTOR. NEW YORK, August 28. Prosecutor. Hart stated to-day at Hackensack (New Jersey) that he was convinced that the shooting of Bergen, the actor, was a “cold-blooded, premeditated) murder.” He added that he had examined Bergen’s coat to-day, but had found no powder marks; consequently the shooting could not have occurred l at close quarters, as declared in Cline’* amended story. “I do not 'believe,” he said, “that Bergen had been given a gun or that there was any talk of a duel. The man was deliberately murdered as the result of a carefully-mapped-out plan.” Cline, tile movie director, 1 will probably plead the unwritten law. It is expected that women will be included on the jury. George 'Cline alleged that Bergen assaulted his wife after getting her drunk., He says that lie challenged Bergen to a duel with revolvers, but that the latter attempted treachery, whereupon, he_ shot him. Ho afterwards gave the police a different version of the affair.
