I A telegram from Auckland states that ! the scow Haere, which was stranded near Cape Maria Van Dicman on June 24, has beer, refloated. Tho S.S. and A. steamer Gallic is to leave Wellington on Saturday for London via Montevideo and Tenerifte. Tho federal steamer Suffolk arrived at Avonmouth on August 25 from Wellington. She sailed from Wellington on July 8. The steamer Huntingdon, with over '38.000 bales of Imperial Government wool from New Zealand, arrived at London on ! August 10. She sailed from Auckland on Juno 21. Tho Shaw-Savdll steamer Raranga. en route from Hamburg, Antwerp, and London to Australia, passed Table Bay on August 25. She cleared London on August 2. The Government steamer Tutanekai left Wellington at noon on Monday on her round trip to the northern lighthouses. She will bo absent from Wellington about six weeks. Advice has been received by the Union Company that tho motor ship Hauraki left Honolulu on Friday last for San Francisco, en route from Sydney. Mr D. Gardner has joined tho Kurow as chief officer, vice Mr W. W. Fish, who has come ashore for orders. Tho Port Auckland, new 0, and D. steamer, which recently completed satisfactory trials, is scheduled to leave New York on September 7 for New Zealand ports, Melbourne, and Sydney. The death is announced at Rockhampton of Captain G. T. Half acre, the master of the Adelaide S.S. Co.’s steamer Junee. Ho was one of the best-known ship masters trading out of Sydney. The steamer Planorbis, from Singapore via Adelaide, with 4,500 tons of motor spirit and 3,600 cases of oil, was among llie arrivals at Sydney on August 9. S-ho js a new vessel, built this year to the op dor of the Anglo-Saxon Petroleum Company, Ltd. Captain Meadows, who is in command, was tho master of tho steamer TnfreM 1 a Hie was sunk by the German',raider Wolf. . THE FERRY SERVICE. Tho Maori arrived at Lyttelton at _7. a.m. to-day from Wellington, and mails and passengers connected with the 8.45 a.m express for tho south. HIMUTAKA AT SOUTHAMPTON. Cable advice received by the New Zealand Shipping Company states that tho Eimutaka arrived at Southampton on August 29 from Wellington. The vessel left Wellington on July 5. MAHIA LEAVES LIVERPOOL. Cable advice has been received that tho Shaw-Savill steamer Maliia sailed from I/iverpool on August 26 with cargo for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Port Chalmers. She is due at Auckland on October 6. CHANGE OF NAME. The steamer Maindy Lodge, which has beer running in the Newcastle-Now Zealand coal trade for Messrs Scott, Fell, and Co., is to have her name clanged to tho Iron Chief. The necessary'authority to change tho name has been' received from the Board of Trade. The Maiinlv Lodge arrived at Wellington on Monday morning from Newcastle. ARRIVAL OF THE ATHENIC. The Shaw, Savill, and Albion liner Athenio arrived in the Lower Harbor today from London and Southampton via Panama and northern ports. She was berthed at Port Chalmers to discharge the local portion of her cargo and load produce for England. The Athenic left Southampton on June 29, and had an uneventful voyage. Part cargo was discharged at* Wellington, ' Auckland, and Lyttelton. She will leave Port Chalmers about Wednesday next for Timaru and Wellington to ■ complete loading. Tho vessel is scheduled to leave Wellington on September 17 for Southampton and London via Montevideo and Teneriffe.

JOHN A. CAMPBELL A TOTAL LOSS The American schooner, John A. Campbell, owned by Bums, Philp, and Co., Ltd., which was reported on fire at Tarawa (Gilbert Group), with a copra cargo, is a total loss. A wireless message received recently by Bums, Philp, and 00., Ltd., stated that the crew had left the vessel and were on the way to Sydney. They left the Gilbert Group on August 10 for Sydney via Ocean Island. v CARGO FROM GERMANY. A cable from London on August 12 announced the sailing of the Gorman steamer Hanau from Hamburg for Australian ports. The Hanau is- tho first German steamer to leave Hamburg for Australia since tho war. Sho belongs to tho German Australian Line, and is steaming to Melbourne and Sydney under the joint service (Alfred Holt and *Co. and German Lines). 'The German Australian Line in pre-war days ran a large fleet of cargo steamers to Australia and the East. They were known as tho “Black German” steamers. Several wore captured and requisitioned during the war, and are now running under the British flag. The C. and D. steamer Port Curtis, with consignments of German merchandise, arrived at Sydney on August 13 from Hamburg and London via ports. Among other cargo a quantity of sulphate of potash, of German manufacture, was discharged. Tho vessel’s cargo includes 4,599 bags of this chemical, all loaded at Hamburg. VESSELS IN WIRELESS CALL.
