SOME COMMENT

The game between Timaru and Christchurch schools was very ragged in the first half, hut improved in the second. Christchurch obtained most from hueouts and scrums, hut made the mistake of endeavoring to handle tho greasy ball. Christchurch deserved better The ground on which ■ tho OtagoSouthlarid match was played was m better order, and the backs handled fairly well. The Southland forwards were superior, and the backs worn evenly matched. Murray (the Soutalaud captain) played a fine game, being the best forward on the ground. S. Jolly was the best in the Otago pack. Wilson (Otago full-hack) played a fine (ramc, as did Kilby (the small I,ollthfand half-back, the lightest player in tho tournament). Swift did not show up at five-eighths for Otago, but played well when shifted to half-back, and opened up tho game well. THE FINALS. Tho finals will be played on Wednesday Christchurch meet Otago, and Southland Timaru. The last time the tournament was held here Chnstcluuch beat Otago and Southland beat Timaru. PEIMAEY SCHOOLS' TOUENAMEN f. Tho primary schools’ Pugby football tournament commenced this morning, when Southland met North Otago " at Tahuna Park. Tho ground was in a very wet state, and the spectators were tew. The came which ensued was not of a higa order.' The Southland boys played good football, and defeated their opponents by 45 points to 0. Bigwond, berguson, vvilln, M‘lvor, and M'Donald were tho principal scorers. Ferguson kicked a penalty goal.
