SCHOOL FOOTBALL

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,— My attention lias been, drawn to your account of last Monday's meeting _of the Otago Football Association, in which you feature my letter to that body. As your headings tend to mislead, I shall make some few remarks on tho matter I referred to r.i my letter. I received a letter dated August 15 from the O.F.A. asking mo "to submit the names of any of your boys who are available and whom you consider are good enough for selection to Mr R. Allen, care of Anderson Bay School, immediately on receipt of this letter.” Mr Allen is one of the representatives of the Public Schools’ Sports'Association on the 0.F.A., and apparently my nominations were to bo submitted to that body. I objected, and, I think, rightly. The Christian Brothers’ School does not recognise tho Public Schools’ Sports Association in Soccer matters, and had the O.F. A. asked rao to submit my names to tho O.F.A. I would have done so. The school has not surrendered itself to iho now football controlling body in Dunedin. A subscription list was enclosed with the fetter above referred to “ in tho hope that some of your supporters may assist.” If that does'not imply an insult —well, then, the letter was a joke. I would look well in soliciting subscriptions to send to Wellington a schoolboy team after. what tho O.F.A. has done in our regard. It would mean that I fully acquiesced in the O.F.A.’s attitude, which I do not. In a further letter from the O.F.A. I am told that “ my executive has done everything within its power to assist Association football in your schools.” So the .O.F.A. haa done its utmost, and therefore we should, not complain, but show gratitude for any little favor it deems fit for the school! I am not of that opinion, and hence my protest against tho insults to the school referred to above.—l am, etc., August 25. F. V. Bowlek.
