The late Rutland Barrington who ere. ated many parts in Gilbert and Sullivan's operas, was one of the annuitants of King George’s pension fund for actors and actresses, which came into existence as a sequel to the Coronation gala performance eleven years ago. The old Savoyard was, in fact, ono of the only two male pensioners, the other being E. M. Robson, whoso first appearance on the stage dates back over half a century. The actresses who-have been granted pensions for their services to the profession are Louise Hoodie, Alma Murray, Dolores Drummond (who made her debut in 1856), Emma Chambers, Jennie Lee (“Jo”), both of whom are well known to Australians, and Cicely Richards.
