MACLAREN’S TEAM
It is announced that the Freeman mentioned as a member of A. C. Maclarcn’a team for Australia and New Zealand is J. R. Freeman, the professional Essex batsman.
In 1921, F. S. G. Oalthorpe made a total of 1,239 runs, with an average of 31.76. His top score was 209. Freeman's average was 34.6, his total 1,657, and highest score 286. A. P. F- Chapman totalled 954 runs, averaging 39.75. E. R. Wilson, as a bowler, took fifty-one wickets for 571 runs a.t an average of 11.10 runs. 0. H. Gibson took forty-eight at a cost of 1,080 runs, avevagjut 20.32 runs. August 21. (Received August 22, at 1.10 p.m.) Commenting on MacLaren’s team the ‘ Sun ’ says: “It may not be quite strong enougli to defeat Victoria or New South Wales, but it should bo quite good enough to defeat the New Zealanders. The tour, however, is expected to develop some talented young players.” It regrets aho absence of the Hubert Ashton. The star of the side will ho A. P. Playing against Yorkshire at the Oval Surrey’s first venture realised 359. Yorkshire had replied with 320 for two wickets at the drawing of stumps on the second day (Oldroyd 83, Sutcliffe npt out 161). Gloucester 141 and 50 for four wickets heat Essex 79 and 110. Parker took four wickets for 32 runs.
