Y.M.C.A. BOARD MEETING

Tho August meeting of the Board of Directors of the Dunedin Y.M.C.A. was held last night, Mr J- B- Waters (president) occupying tho chair. A letter was received regarding tho immediate needs of the Hyderabad work in India, an extensive building programme being an urgent necessity. It was felt that, while Now Zealand associations should maintain their present financial assistance in the support of this work, the elaboration of it should be handed over to tho Indian National Council, tho Australasian associations guaranteeing their continued support as at present The reports were all carefully considered, and showed the work to be ou the up-grade. Finance, as usual, was one of tho pressing troubles of tho association. The statement showed a debit balance of £978. __ While this is an improvement of £207 on the year’s work to date, it_ is recognised that heavy expenses lio ahead, including city rates of close on £2OO. The House Committee reported the budding to bo full, a large number of young men being in permanent residence. The matter of the reopening of lbo baths was left in the hands 'of the physical executive for decision. _ the physical department reported indoor and outdoor activities of an encouraging nature, and showed a total enrolment of 500 members in 65 classes, with an attendance of 2,TCO. The boys’ work report showed about 56 club meetings bad been held, with an attendance of 993. Those covered newsboys, Scouts, business boys, secondary school boys, primary school boys. It was also reported that the membership at present stands at 262, 24 being transferred to tho younger men’s department. Tho younger men’s department report showed three weekly clubs in full operation, and a largo number of educational and other activities in constant session. In educational work a course in salesmanship, a sub-branch of the League of Nations, and various debate’s and lectures were reported on.

[ The Religious Work Committee showed that in tho boys’_ division there is an enrolment of 115 in Bible study groups in the younger men’s depart.meat, three strong Bible study groups in session, among residents a daily devotional service, a wcekß Bible study group, and a weekly residents’ service, which had been addressed by tho Rev. Canon Nevill, Cr Sincock, Wr Wirt, and the general secretary. Two Sunday afternoon meetings had been held, with attendances of 42 and 73. A number of devotional meetings and interviews were reported upon, and the fact that members of the association had occupied pulpits and addressed Biblo classes. 'Membership was shown as follows:--Senior 317, sustaining 60, younger men 215, boys 263; total. 855.
