PRISONER’S ATTEMPTED ESCAPE

IMMEDIATELY RECAPTURED. [Per Exited Press Association.] AUCKLAND, August 22. James Harold O’Brien, a prisoner in Mount Eden, attempted to escape while working in a quarry. Two warders gave chase aa O’Brien disappeared over the bank. He was recaptured about 250yds from the. prison ground, after being twice fired upon, as ho refused to halt when challenged. O’Brien was brought before Mr Poynton, S.M., and ordered fourteen days’ bread and water.
