Few vessels have excited more interest along the waterfront at Sydney than the 6,093-ton tramp Maimyo, the first steamer from Hamburg since the war (reports the ‘Daily Telegraph’).■ The Maimyo commenced) discharging her cargo on July 31. The freight included, in addition to cargo loaded at Hamburg, a quantity shipped at London. From four holds cargo of all descriptions —barbed wire, pianos,’ fencing wire, table salt, galvanised iron, and cases (largo and small) were hauled up and' landed over the side of the steamer.

It was said that in the M:|’myo i\ere the first of tho German-made goods to be landed in Australia. Whether it be true or not, there was not much evidence of it in tho rapidly-filling sheds alongside. Most of the cargo seemed to be of British origin, but occasionally a case or a piano would be hoisted aloft, and foreign lettering on its side wpuld lead one to believe that it was German. Close inspection, however, generally proved that tho case was marked) “ Made in Czechoslovakia,” with a label pasted on the top printed “Via Hamburg,” with some consignor’s directions added.

It was quickly evident, however, that the well-remembered German-stylo lettering. and the old inscription “ blade in Germany,” on tho oases wore absent. If there were German goods in tho Maimyo it was only a small consignment.
