NOTES FROM RICCARTON. [Special to tub ‘ Star.’] CHRISTCHURCH, August 18. F. D. Jones has recommissioned Mustard Pot. Tho General Latour gelding looks fresh and well after his rest, and ho will bo got ready to race at some of the late spring meetings. Mason is keeping his team busy in view of the spring meetings. He lias engaged boxes for two horses at Wanganui, and Veil may be one of his lot to make the trip. She has been a. disappointment in her racing, while she has gone back, instead of improving, in appearance. Parody (Absurd—Mimique) will probably bo the first of the two-year-olds to carry Mr Greenwood’s colors this season. Gladful was in great heart when lie returned borne after the Grand National Meeting, but it is, stated that Mr Kembail may pension the veteran off, L’Amour, who raced so well in hack events at the Grand National Meeting, was sore after completing Ins engagements, and ho is to' be spelled. W. J. Tomkinson contemplates remaining in New Zealand with his team till well on in the present season, but he may jetuni to Sydney before the winter becomes too severe. He will probably race liis horses at tho principal meetings in the dominion, and by way of a start he may take some of them to Auckland in October. COURSING. —Waterloo Cup.— l More Ilian usual interest attaches te coursing matters' 1 hr these parts, for the running of the New Zealand Cup commences ou Thursday. This fixture is the. most important one in the annals of coursing in the dominion, being the blue riband of the sport. The event is being run under the auspices of the National Ooursing Association of New Zealand, and the immediate direction and control of the Dunedin Coursing Club. So far fifty-four nominations have been received, and! it is anticipated that they will close with, a full bill. The draw will! take place at 8 o’clock on Monday evening.
