NEAR EAST PROBLEMS.
CONSTANTINOPLE-, August 17,
Unforeseen circumstances prevented the signing of a protocol defining the neutral zone between Greece and Turkey at Chataldja, but the Greek and allied commanders have readied an agreement under which the Greeks will withdraw six miles from the present demarcation line, and the bulk of the Greek troops will bo withdrawn beyond the Rodosto-Midia,. line. The failure of the London Conference has created anxiety in Turkish circles, as they fear unfavorable consequences of the further postponement of the Near East settlement.
ATHENS, Augifst 17.
Cabinet has discussed notification to the Entente representatives regarding the selfgovernment of the lonian Isles. It is understood that the I’owerg made representations pointing out that"the Greek Government's action would not affect their eventual decision regarding the status of lonia.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
