ALLEGED GO-SLOW METHODS.
SYDNEY, ■August 15.
A number of boilermakers were dismissed from the waterfront engineering shops for allegedly adopting the go-slow methods recently formulated by tho Labor Council. An official of the Trades Hall states that a largo number of employees were dismissed because they signified their intention of not using mechanical appliances such as pneumatic riveters. This means that they intend to revert to tho old method of hand work.
NEW SOUTH WALES COTTON CROP
SYDNEY, August 15,
■Cabinet has endorsed the arrangements made by Sir George Fuller with the Prime Minister, guaranteeing the New South Wales cotton crop for the coming year, the guarantee to be on tho same basis as that of Queensland—namely, s|d.

In view of the continuous obstructive tactics by the Federal: Ministry’s opponents, it is stated that it can be taken for granted that the General Elections will be held before the enrli of this year. It is understood that Mr Hughes has informed Ills supporters that these- tactics cannot be tolerated any longer, and unless tho Ministry sees' some prospect of carrying through its programme his early resignation may be expected. Other attacks on tho Ministry are known to be pending.

PRESSMEN ON TRIAL FOR BRIBERY,
BRISBANE, August. 16. In the Legislative Assembly the censure motion on the Government was defeated by one vote —36-35. Mr Theodore, Premier, charged the Opposition with endeavoring to induce him to leave Labor and lead a now party. The Opposition was also trying to achieve success by bribing members. Mr 'Barnes denied that the National Party was in any way mixed up in the matter. Two journalists, John Slecman and Edward Connolly, were charged with attempting to bribe F. Brennan to vote against their party on tho censure motion, and were remanded until Monday on bail —viz., their own bond for £suo and a surety each for £SOO. THE DISENDOWED ORCHESTRA. SYDNEY, August 16. Mr Bruntnell, of the Fuller Cabinet, has advised M. Verbrugghen that if ho returns it will be only as director nf tho CoJiservatorium of Mush:, as the Government, would make no oiler respecting the State Orchestra.

In consequence of the dosing down of the Broken Hill works at Newcastle a cargo of 5,000 iron and steel bars is being imported from England for wiremaking. UNPAID ECONOMISTS. SYDNEY, August 16. The reconstituted Commonwealth Board of Trade has commenced its sittings. Tho new board comprises, the Bureau of Commerce and Industry members, embracing leading commercial men, whose _ services are given voluntarily on industrial problems from time to time. SUGAR CONTROL SCANDAL. MELBOURNE, August 16. A joint parliamentary committee on Public Accounts has opened an inquiry into the sugar transactions of the Commonwealth Government. One witness stated that since its appointment the Commonwealth Sugar Board purchased all local and foreign sugar made by the Colonial Company, and no record had been kept of tho transactions of the Government, which was dependent for its information on the figures supplied by the company.
