Bates) supplied the_ following at noon to-day :—The indications are for westerly winds (strong to gale) prevailing; the weather appears likely to be cloudy and unsettled, with rain following; barometer unsteady; sea considerable, tides good. SAlLED.—August 15. Twickenham, s.s. (3.55 p.m.), 4,981 tons, Graggs, for Auckland. ' Mahana, s.s. (4.30 p.m.), 11,791 tons, Kershaw, for Timaru. Kini, s.s. (10.10 p.m.), 1,122 tons, Jaunay, for Napier and Gisborne via ports.

The Shaw-Savil] liner Mahana left Port Chalmers yesterday afternoon for Timaru to continue Homeward loading. She will complete loading at Lyttelton and Wellington. The steamer Twickenham left Dunedin yesterday afternoon for Auckland, where the balance of her cargo of phosphates from the Seychelles Islands will be discharged. The Kini left Dunedin last night for Oamaru, Timaru, Lyttelton, and Wellington to complete her loading for Napier and Gisborne.

The Dundula, with 4,395 ton§ of coal from Newcastle, arrived at Auckland early yesterday morning. The Huntingdon, which sailed from Auckland on June 21 for London, arrived at her destination on August 10. Captain J. G. Watson, of tho Wanaka, has been granted holiday leave. Mr A. C. Parker, second officer of the Wanaka, has been granted holiday leave. The New Zealand Shipping Company’s steamer Whakatane is expected to arrive at Auckland to-day from Bristol, Glasgow, and Liverpool. She cleared Liverpool on June 24 and Colon on July 15. Tho Katoa is expected to reach Wellington on Saturday with general cargo from Auckland. She is expected to sail the same day for Lyttelton, Dunedin, Oamaru, and Timara.

The Island steamer Navua is to leave Auckland on August 21 for Fiji, Samoa, and Tonga. Captain G. B. Morgan has taken command of the Ngahere, vice Captain A. H. Prosser, who is awaiting instructions at Wellington. The Gallic, from Bluff, is expected at Lyttelton to-day, and will probably sail on Friday for Napier. She is to leave Wellington on August 31 for London via Montevideo.

It was discovered on Thursday last that the coal in the side bunkers of the New Zealand Shipping Company’s steamer Opawa, berthed at the Queen’s wharf, Auckland, had become overheated, and in consequence it was necessary to shift about 300 tons in order to bring down the temperature to the normal level. As a result the departure of the Opawa for southern ports was delayed for two days, the vessel sai’ing on Saturday morning.

The Westmoreland steamed down to Port Chalmers this morning to commence loading for London and West of England ports. She will sail about Friday for Lyttelton, Napier, Gisborne, and Wellington to conrplete loading.

The Kaikoura. is expected to complete discharge of her Liverpool cargo to-mor-row. She will then go to Port Chalmers to load for London.

The ketch Rira was towed up to Dunedin this morning from the Lower Harbor and berthed at the Birch street wharf to load general freight for Auckland. The vessel arrived here last week-end after a passage of eighteen days from Auckland. The Wingatui is due here this evening from Auckland via ports, and will sail to-morrow for Bluff, east coast ports, and Auckland.

The Paloona is due at Wellington tomorrow from Melbourne. She will sail on -Friday for Lyttelton and Dunedin. The vessel is expected here on Sunday, and is timed to sail on Monday afternoon for Bluff and Melbourne. The Ngakuta is duo at Dunedin early next week from Westport via Lyttelton. She will discharge a part cargo' of coal and load general cargo for Westport and Greymouth. The Kawatiri was expected to leave Newcastle yesterday with a cargo of coai for discharge at Dunedin. THE FERRY SERVICE. The Mararna arrived at Lyttelton at 8.50 a.m. to-day from Wellington, and mails and passengers connected with the 12.20 p.m. express for the south. VESSELS IN WIRELESS CALL. Thompson : and thirty-eight third class. The Niagara brought 1,100 tons of cargo, which included transhipments for Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, and outports. CORINTHIC FOR NEW ZEALAND. The Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company has been notified by cable that the liner Gorinthic sailed from Southampton on August 10 with cargo and passengers for Wellington and Lyttelton via Panama. The vessel is due at Wellington on September 17. THE TUTANEKAI’S CREW. The Marine Department’s officials were engaged on Saturday in going through the applications for appointment as permanliold and deck departments of the lighthold and deck department_of the lighthouse steamer Tutanekai. Nearly seventy applications have been received. Ten deck hands and nine men for the stokehold are required to man tho vessel.

PJMUTAKA’S HOMEWARD VOYAGE.

A cablegram received by the New Zealand Shipping Company states that the Rimutaka arrived at Panama on August 9 from Wellington, and sailed from Colon on August 10 direct for Southampton. The vessel left Wellington on July 15.

PAPAROA LEAVES SOUTHAMPTON.

Cable advice received by the New Zealand Shipping Company states that the Paparoa sailed from Southampton on August 11 for Wellington, Auckland, and Port Chalmers via Panama. She is blunging passengers and cargo, and is duo at Wellington on September 28. SHIPPING TELEGRAMS.
