Mr Roland Black travelled from Dunedin to Timani to-day. Mr R. Rankinc, C.M.G., Governor of Nyassaland (Central Africa) was a passenger to Wellington by tbo Athenic from Home. Mr Rankinc is a- brother of Mr J. Rankine, chief engineer of the Union Company's Tera.whiti. Mr J. Blair Mason is at present in town.

Captain Dowd], for a long lirao master of the steamer Ngaherc, has resigned from the Union Company in order to visit England to bring out a new steamer for the trade between Lyttelton and the West Coast.—Christchurch correspondent. ■
