(Received August 15, at A 0.30 a.m.) Tho match between O’Hara Wood and Gobert to-day put France out of the Davis Cup competition, the Australian winning, 2-6, 6-2, 6-1, 6-4, In the first set Gobert ended- with aterrific attack that won him the last five games in succession. In the next ho started off at the same pace, but Wood recovered, and secured the last feur games. Tho third set the Australian opened strongly. Ho served excellently, and got on to Gobe-rt’s sharp am-gle shots, which had baffled him at the start. Play varied from mediocre to'brilliant, both netting frequently. In tho last set Gobert obtained a, 0-4 lead, but the Australian boat him by terrific service and steady placement. This match was below the standard of the others. The Frenchman, who was bothered by tho boat, went to pieces. PATTERSON ALSO WINS. NEW YORK, August 14. (Received August 15, at 12.5 p.m.) Patterson (Australia) defeated Cochet (Franco), 6-2, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2. SPAIN’S TEAM. NEW YORK, August 14. (Received August 15, at 10.50 a.m.) It is announced from Philadelphia- that Count Manuel Do Goman and Manuel Alonzo will represent Spain in the Davis Cup singles final round. The players for tho doubles have yet to be selected. [Tho games will be played during tho current week. Australia meeting Spain in the final round.
