Sir Tristram Eve told a story at Mr Churchill’s expense in presiding at a Carlton Hotel (London) dinner to mark the wind-up of tho Forage Committee of tbo War Office. On one occasion, he said, the committee received a letter signed, “Witiston Churchill,” asking what they meant by commandeering his hay. In the answer it was pointed out that the hay was taken under an army order signed by the Secretary for War. He might mention that at that time Mr Winston Churchill held that office. There was no reply.
