ORANGE LODGE CONCERT

A concert was given in the Burns Hall on Saturday evening under the ahspTccs of the Ladies’ Loyal' Orange Lodge, No. 31, assisted'by .the brethren of No. 34 Lodge, the object being to assist returned soldiers’ unemployment fund. The stage was elaborately decorated with floral decorations intermingled with the representative color for the occasion—viz., red, representing the relief of Derry celebrations, tlio background being the Union Jack, from the top of which were suspended streamers of red. The gallery also was beiiagged. Tho North-oast Valiev School Band opened tho programme with tlio National Anthem and a selection, after which the R.S.A- orchestra rendered an overture. The Rev. S. Q- Griffith! gave a stirring address on the relief of Derry, telling of the hardships and privations'' of the forefathers who had won such a noble heritage for the freedom and liberty of Protestants. One of the most attractive items was the appearance of half a dozen little girls dressed as nurses, while Miss hiHo Reekie, barefooted uud dressed in tatters, sang by way of appeal ‘ Please, Give Me a Penny, Sir.’ The appeal did not fall on deaf ears, are tho largo Union Jack used for the collection was soon weighty with coins. Songs were contributed by Misses Williams, Reekie, and Sunderland, and Messrs Mitchell, Reid, Rnwlinson, and -S. Jackson. An instrumental trio was given by Messrs G. Christie, Logie, and Nelson, and Miss E. Morgan contributed a violin solo, while Miss N. McDonald played the accompaniments and gave a solo item. Recitations were given 'by Misses M. Clifford. M. Smith, and (1 Thomas, and Mr Wilson and Miss L. Macdonald danced a Russian dance.
