(Received August 12, at 11.15 a.m.) Australia won the Doubles, 6-0, 6-8, 4-5, 6-3, 10-8. The Australians easily won the first eet. O’Hara Wood’s arm appeared to be in good condition, and Patterson played powerfully and confidently. In the next set the Frenchmen put up a much better fight. It ran to fourteen games, and, though Cachet appeared_ to become tired and rather wild, they rallied, and after six all had been called won the next two and the set. The Frenchmen maintained their advantage in the third set. Gobert had a similar misadventure to yesterday. Ho fall heavily twice, and was badly shaken up. A sharp breeze blowing over the court was playing tricks with the balls. (Received August 12, ait 11.55 a.m.) For a while the teams appeared evenly matched, but notwithstanding Gobert’a mishap he and his partner proved too strong for their opponents. The fourth sat was a hard-hitting contest. Each took games alternatively up to 3-3; but Coohet then suddenly weakened, and the Australians won three in succession. In the last set the Frenchmen showed stamina, and, returning to the struggle strongly, won a point - in the first three games. The Ansttlians took the next four, playing with great speed .. the Frenchmen were unable to handle" their returns. Coohet visibly tired, and Gobert covered the court for him. The games fell alternately up to the fifteenth. Both the Frenchmen were weary, but playing desperately hard. The Australians then won the set by taking the last three games. [The French pair have to win both the remaining Singles, which seems an impossible task, in. order to get into the Challenge Round. —Sports Ed.]
