Last evening the Momington Literary Society's meeting was presided over by the Hon. G. M. Thomson in the absence of the president. ‘ That the Principle of State Control in Industry has Proved a Failure ’ was very r ably debated by Messrs Watson and Nordlraeyer (affirmative) and Messrs Barrowclough and l Bailey (negative). The debaters badi evidently studied the works of the latest authorities on economics. The good-natured sallies of the contestants were appreciated 1 by the audience. When the discussion was opened to the meeting by the chairman, Messrs Davidson, Cameron, and! Pvussell spoke, each adding interesting details to the subject debated. The • meeting, called on for its opinion, declared by a satisfactory majority in favor of the negative. , .
