COMIC OPERA COMPANY

' ‘ KATINKA ’ TO-NIGHT. The 'Williamson Company revived ‘ The Maid, of, the Mountains ’ at His Majesty’s Theatre on Saturday night, when -persons who had been unable to see it on its main run, added to the many who desired to witness it a second time, made, up a.large audience. As on each previous performance, the production was emphatically successful. the music being much enjoyed, the original characterisation coming in for high praise, and the mounting fairly surprising the people. Two returned soldiers who saw ‘ The Maid ’ in London assure us that the presentation in Dunedin is quite worthy of comparison with the original, especially in regard to the scenery and the stage appointments generally.. University ■lndents, who were, the guests ,of the management on Saturday night, paid the ladies of the company a pretty compliment by throwing a snower of violet nosegays on to the stage during the big scene of the second act.

‘Katinka’ is to be produced this evening and to-morrow evening. This work was staged for the first time in Australasia at Dunedin on April ,25, 1918, with Gladys Moncrieff as Katinka . and Phil Smith as Tbaddeua Hopper, and it at once caught on so firmly that theatregoers have talked about if ever since, wherefore big houses are assured.
