Tho profits in tho coal mining industry for the March quarter were £2,963,904, against £71,733 for the December quarter. A satisfactory increase is shown in the output, and the working charges have decreased.—A. and N.Z. Gable.

Tho American coal strike caused a sudden boom in tho British coal trade, which had been stagnant for several months. Tho strike eliminated American competition in Europe, causing France, Belgium, ■Holland, Italy, and other Continental countries to place heavy orders in Britain. —A. and N.Z. Cable.
