CAVERSHAM SCHOOL CHOIR
ENJOYABLE ENTERTAINMENT. ,■ Tho Cavereham School Choir gave one of its enjoyable concerts in the school gymnasium on Saturday evening before an audience which filled the building. The concert opened with the National Anthem, which was followed by the ‘ Vocal March/ in which the choir was hoard to advantage. Miss Betty Coventry delighted the audience with her rendering of ‘ The Milkmaid/ and: the action song, 1 Choice of Games/ by the choir merited the applause which followed. Eive litbl’e girls sang ‘A Simple Melody ’ very tunefully. Master L. Souncss’s contribution was the song ‘ Heaps of Lickin’s,’ which was feelingly sung. The part songs ‘Village Choir’; and 'Who Will O’er the Downs’ gave the choir plenty of scope in which to demonstrate its ability, and, the result whs entirely pleasing, the words being distinctly hoard and the time and tune perfect.. The song ‘Sweetheart’ was nicely rendered by five boys, and the song * Tale of a Mouse’’ by the junior girls was ,an item that appealed to tho audience. The .. humorous recitation, ‘ Fifty-four/ by Miss L. Wreathall, was an item which was thoroughly enjoyed. Tho second part of tho programme opened with an amusing skit entitled ‘ Tho Community Sing/ which served to introduce a number of boys attired in all manner of weird and wonderful costumes, gathered together for a community sing. Master L. Souness, as Signor Saosagini (conductor), led them through the intricacies of ‘Annie Laurie,’ ‘Abo,’ ‘Peggy O’Neill/ and various other well-known items in a manner which hugely delighted those present. The choir rendered Dis Oio Nigger,’ ‘Whore tho Bee Sucks/ ‘John Peel,’ and ‘Glory and Love,’ and in each was heard to distinct advantage. .Miss C. Rosevear gave a good rendering of ‘ God’s Garden,’ and was deservedly encored. ‘April Showers’ was sung to advantage by Misses R. Ryder and E. Ritchie, and Master R. Herbert pleased everyone with tho recitation ‘ Tho Groom’s Story.’ A number of girls and boys amused the audience with humorous anecdotes and etories, which were much appreciated. Mr A. H. Robinson, the conductor, is to bo complimented on the excellent way in which he handled the choir, and for the pains ho takes in getting such good results. Miss Ruby Hudson proved a most efficient accompaniste, her work adding greatly to the enjoyment of tho evening.
