Fmday, July 28. (Before Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M.) BY-LAWS TRANSGRESSED. Isabelle Park, for allowing her chimney to- catch fire, was fined ss, with costs (7s), and Robert Walker', for a similar offence, was fined 10s, with costs (7s). Mary Elizabeth Cooper, for driving on the wrong side while turning a corner, was fined 10s, with costs (7s). Winfred Bathgate (Air Anderson) pleaded guilty to driving without a license and negligent driving. On the first charge a fine of 10s, with costs (7s), ivas inflicted, and £2, v.lth costs (21s) for the second offence. Gabriel Boyd, for riding a motor cycle without lights, was fined 10s, .with costs (7s), and Thomas Fleming 10s, with costs (7s) for driving a cart without lights; and Arthur James Phillips, for leaving a motor van without lights, -was fined the same amount. Benjamin Franklin Horc was convicted for allowing horses to wander. DEFENCE ACT. Thomas Hoaro was charged with failure to render personal service. This case had been adjourned for three mouths to give accused a chance, to make up his parades. —.Sub-inspector Eccles said that accused had failed to do this.—'The Magistrate inflicted! a fine of £2, with costs (7s). John David Dagg was similarly charged, and the Sub-inspector said tire facts were the same as in the previous case, only accused had done more parades.—A fine of 20s, with costa (7s), was inflicted. MAINTENANCE. - Percival Harold Petrie was charged with disobedience of a maintenance order, with arrears amounting to £BB 10s 4d. Mr Anderson appeared for defendant and Mr Irwin for complainant. There was also a complaint for variation of the order of the defendant and an application for separation by the complainant.—After examining the defendant as to his earnings, the Magistrate reduced the arrears to £SO up to June 19, and refused the application for variation. —Air Anderson said! that hia client consented' to the separation order.— Accused was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment, the warrant to he suspended on the payment of £2 per week. Catherine MTntosh proceeded against her husband, Thomas MTntosh, for separation, maintenance, and guardianship orders.—Mr Hanlon appeared for tho applicant and Mr Hay for the defendant.— In the course of his cross-examination Mr Hay asked the applicant if she knew that her husband! had a bad heart. “Bad heart! Black heart, you mean,” answered the wife.—Defendant in his evidence said that lie did not want to marry, he being seventy-eight years of age and the woman thirty-nine or less, although she told him she ■was forty-three, A clergyman had advised him nob to marry the woman. They had been married at the Registry Office. He had on the same day received a letter from Mr Hanlon threatening action for breach of promise.—Cross-examined, he gave details of his financial position- ' r
