LONDON, July 25,

Fifty Irregulars at Lillurin, County Wexford, ambushed a train containing prisoners escorted by Nationals. Two,coaches contained Nationals, and the prisoners were locked in a third, tho remaining coaches being crowded with civilians. Shortly after the train emerged from a tunnel two shots rang out. Tho train immediately stopped, and a hail of fire was directed upon it from the heights on both sides of tho line. The troops jumped)’through tho windows and charged, courageously pursuing tho rebels up the hills. Two Nationals were killed and seven wounded. Seven rebels were woundted. Tho engine driver was arrested. The passengers were panic-stricken, particularly the women and children, who threw themselves at full length upon the floors of tho carriages. The fight lasted three-quarters of an hour, tho firing being continuous. The Free' Staters, despite their disadvantage, due to the unexpectedness of the attack and their exposed position, never wavered under the rain of lead. 'Hie Irregulars had selected good cover. Bullet® penetrated tho carriage windows, and the floors wore strewn with broken glasa When tho train arrived at Dublin snipers on the roofs of buildings launched another attack, aided by rebels among the crowd on the station platform.—A. and) N.Z.
