COAL ROYALTIES
A DULLER COMPLAINT. [Pee Usited Press Association.] WESTPORT, July 26. The Bullei Progress League resolved to make strong representations to_ the Government to, remove the imposition of an additional 6d per ton on the new coal leases. ; The mover said that the old” lessees paid 6d per ton, but now lessees had to pay Is per ton. This was an unfair handicap. as voiy often acceptances or rejection of tenders depended on 6d per ten or less. Ho hirUicr said that if the Government imposed id per lb on all the butler or cheese produced by new or on the wool produced by new companies, or ’ extra charges; per foot on all timber produced by new saw-milling companies, there would bo a hbwl from one end of the dominion to tht other. Yet it was such an injustice Unit was-being done to new coal companies, it would seriously-hamper development K the extra royalty were not removed.
