THE RED PLAGUE
[Per United Press. Association.] _ WELLINGTON, July 26. The Special Commission of the' Board of Health appointed by tho Minister of Health (Hon. C. J. Parr) to inquire into the question of venereal disease in Now Zealand commenced its sittings to-day, the Hon. W. H. Triggs in the chair. In opening the -proceedings tho Minister said tli© .committee was entrusted with a \ery important task. He had two reasons for setting up a committee to work. Firstly, it was necessary that the Minister of Health and the Government should have evidence of the feeding of tie various sections of tho community with regard to venereal disease, its prevalence, cause, and cure. He suggested that the proceedings Should bo open to the Press when evidence was being token, so that the public would bo educated as to tho time bearings of tho disease and tho real facts in connection with it. It might Ibe possible to confine the sittings -to Wellington; but ho lefpit entirely to the discretion of the committee.
