FREE STATE SUCCESSES.
LONDON, July 16. [Received July 17, at. 12.10 p.m.) A large force of Dree Staters has taken strategic positions dominating Inch Island, near Londonderry, where 200 Republicans are quartered, the chief stronghold/ being Inch Fort, The Free Staters shelled the fort with an eighteen-pounder. When darkness fell they had penetrated a considerable distance into the island'. They captured Lord i'c s house, which the rebels had fortified, and took prisoner the garrison: There were heavy explosions on Sunday morning. , These wore apparently due to the rebels destroying their stores in anticipation of an early surrender. , , The Free Staters on Sunday captured the military barracks at Dundalk (Louth) by means of an early morning surprise attack. They found the garrison a-bed, and took prisoner 250 ■without a shot being fired, though two rebels were shot (one of whom died) in an attempt to escape.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
