THREE-MILE CHAMPIONSHIP

Fifteen runners faced the starter in the dub, three-mile championship for the Soldiers’ Memorial Cup, held at. Wingatui. Stables won easily by about 20yds from Bibby, who was about 50yds ahead of Edmond, who in turn just heat Paterson lor third place. Result : J. D. Stables (17min ssec) ... 1 J. B. Next Saturday the club will run from Momington School, and afterwards as the aruests of Mr 11. W. Reid (not from Anderson Bay, as on the syllabus). PACIFIC CLUB. The Pacific Club decided its championship andl sealed handicaps at Wingatui under ideal conditions. The course started from Opposite the grand stand, and took in the sod wall and poat-and-rails. About the half-mile post it crossed on to MrGow’s property, past his residence on to Factory road, then to Janefield through the property of Mr Guy, and across to the railway line at the culvert; thence on the racecourse, which, was followed to the finishing post. The senior five-mile was twice over this course and the junior two and a-half miles (once round). The latter event was run first, and brought out a field of six runners. Brown ran in a winner by about 100 yards, Gibson getting second and J. J. Grey third. Stevenson and 11. Bond withdrew from the race after crossing the plough in Mr Gow’s paddock. Time. 15min Ss.-c. The sealed handicap resulted in J. J. Grey taking first place and C. Muir second. Ten runners came forward for the senior five mile. Result:—W. H. B. Hobbs I, C. H. M’Lean 2. K. T. Jolly 5, R. Monaghan 4. Time, 30min 49sec. The Sealed Handicap run in conjunction with the championship resulted in E. T. Jolly taking first prize, and R. Monaghan second. The winners, H. Brown (junior) and W. Hobbs, ran good races, and showed the result of good training. C. H. M'Lcau also ran well, and deserves his place. Next Saturday the rim will be from Momington School. 1 CAVERSHAM CLUB. The Caversham Harriers held a handicap of about, two and a-half miles at the Cliffs, prizes being donated by Mr G. Newton. A field of eighteen started. The course started at M'Laren’s, through Hamilton’s, round on to the road, and through the valley overlooking Burnside; then across paddocks, rieng the road to the golf links. A “ ding Song” go resulted in J. Tapp just beating E. Mayne, with Gibbs, Dixon, and MacDonell, in that order. Time, 14min 53sec. The following members are requested to meet at Cargill’s corner on Tuesday at 7.30 to train: —C.'irye, J. Beatsou, J. Tapp, C. Mayne, A. Smith, J. H. Holmes, H. Williamson, A. Frye, L. Diamond. CIVIL SERVICE CLUB. The Civil Service Harriers held their weekly run from Caversham School. Wellman and Lister led the pack at a fast pace up Sidev’s Hill u> tho golf links, whence the Caversham Club held their two and a-half mile race. By the courtesy of the latter club the members followed behind tho scratch man (Frye), and the run resulted in excellent training for the club’s interdub team. The course was very sloppy. Next Saturday the Civil Service Club will decide their five-mile cross-country championship at Wingatui. Tho winner will hold the club’s championship trophy a statue of Mercury, “the God of Speed’’—for the ensuing year. This is said to be the most valuable*trophy presented for amateur distance running in New Zealand. Tho present holder is Mr F. F. Lister, who is now in Christchurch. ST. PATRICK’S. The St. Patrick’s Club held its five-mile championship and sealed handicap at Wingatui, Fourteen members tailed, and, although it was a hard race,*-twelve of them breasted the tape at the finish. The course was the same-'as taken in tho interdub five-mile championship. At the and of the first two miles and a-half the order was; White, M'Allen, Taylor, and Hanrahan, the rest of the field wing well strung out. Coming on to the course for the second time, White increased his lead, and finished a winner by about 100 yards. Result: F. White 1, T. M’Allen 2, J. Taylor 3, E. M’llrov 4. The sealed handicap resulted in 'J. Taylor taking first place and C. Morris second. The special prize for the first novice home went to L. Clutterbuck. The following have been chosen to represent the dub, in the interdub five-mile championship.—F. White, T. M'Allen, E. MTlroy, J. Taylor, C. Morris, and L. Clutterbuck. CARGILL ROAD. Tho Cargill Road Methodist Harriers held their cross-country championship over a course on the hills behind the golf links at St. Clair. Twelve started. E. 0. Chapman took the lead, but was soon overtaken by W. E. MTndoe, who obtained a big lead and held it right throughout th-- ; race, coming in first, with C. H. Baldwin second. The time was 27min 34scc. Li connection with the race a sealed handicap was run, this being won by E. Graves, ■with. 3min 50sec. The course was about five miles.

The course taken by tho Y.M.G. A. Harriers led them through _the Gardens, up tho Opoho road, and over the hill to tho rifle butts. From there the course continued along the Lake Logart road to Bundas street, up to tho drive, and thence home. *

There was a good attendance at the St. Hilda Club’s run from Wesley Hall as the guests of the Y.W.B.C. The pack, under the charge of Captain Newell and Deputycaptain M‘Crone, made their way across the fields to Victoria road, which they followed for a short distance, but afterwards left for the lupines. Thence they followed the road to Tomahawk Beach. After passing tl}o beach they made their way to tho fishing lagoon, and went round it. Then by way of Tomahawk Lagoon they took the Tomahawk road to Queen’s Drive, from whence a stiff run home resulted, in which S. Hitchcox and A. Macdonald wero prominent.
