A church service was held under the auspices of the District Grand Lodge, No. 5, in the Early Settlers’ Hall on Saturday night. Bro. A. Kirkpatrick, D.G.M., was in the chair, and W.G.M. Bro. W. G. Lumley and officers of tho Protestant Alliance Grand Lodge occupied seats on the platform. Bro. Rev. S. Morris delivered an address on tho principles of Protestantism, baaing hia remarks on Jude, verso 3: “Earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.” The speaker said it was a very simple thing for persons to say that they were Protestants, but there were many whodid not understand the full significance of tho term —what it meant, what it stood for, and what they must do to prove or maintain this right to bo known as such. A heritage had been passed on, and it was their bounden duty to seo that that which had been secured at heavy cost should be retained intact. To contend strenuously for one principle yet let another equally important slip away was of no avail—it must bo all. The speaker closed his by exhorting his hearers to bo up and doing and watchful lest any of their privileges should be taken away. , The Trinity Methodist Church Choir gave two anthems, Mr S. Lawn contributing a solo; and others who assisted at the service were the Rev, R. Raino, Rev. Bro. G. P. Hunt, to all of whom the chairman extended tine thanks of District Grand Lodge. Hie National Anthem was sung at tho opening and closing of the gathering.
