MEN'S MATCHES. COMPLETION OF SECOND ROUND. SENIOR.

—’Varsity A 3, City 3.

The meeting of ’Varsity A and City on the Oval No. 1 ground produced a very exciting game. 'Varsity attacked from the initial bully, and Davies scored within two minutes of the start. After a brie.f period of even play ’Varsity oamo again, and Davies scored' his second goal. ’Varsity were having all the better of the play, and an easy win looked certajn,~.At this stage City had the misfortune to lose Lon. Ireland, who received a nasty knock on the forehead from a rising ball. Gillespie dropped back _ to_ fill Ireland’s place, andl Gurr, of the junior team, came on in the halves. Gibbs, M’Donald, and Caider took the ball upheld. The ball struck the goalpost and rebounded into tho field of play, and Gibbs, who had followed up fast, was successful in scoring. There was no further score in the first spell, and at halftime ’Varsity were still leading by 2 goals to 1.

City were a greatly-improved team in tho second spell, _ the forwards showing much better combination than in any of their previous games. From a scramble in the circle Colder scored a clever equalising goal. Tho game, now became'* fast and exciting. Leonard and Aitken were prominent for good play for ’Varsity, while Gillespie, Les. Ireland), and Butler were prominent for City. M'Ahan put in a fast run down the left wing, and scored a good goal, putting City in the lead. ’Varsity made strenuous efforts to equalise. Turbit, Bridgman, and Slater broke away in a fine combined rush, and Turbit was successful in _ scoring. Davies received an injury to his knee, and had to retire before the game was finished. The dosing stages were evenly contested, but no further score resulted; so the game ended in a draw, .the scores being Varsity 3, City 3. J Messrs W. H. Down and A. S. Wallace were the referees.

—Gymnastic A v. ’Varsity B.— These teams met on Oval Mo. 2, which was in a very greasy condition, making good play impossible. From the initial bully ’Varsity attacked, Edgington oarrying_ the ball to Reds’ circle, where Foote relieved with a hit well up the lino. Gymnastic then put up a persistent attack, but were unable to register. Good play by_ Hetherington, the ’Varsity full hack, relieved the situation time and again. A well-placed shot by Hetherington put the Blue forwards on the attack, and after nice combined play Edgington netted with a hot "Shot. From this onwards Gymnastic took charge, and netted 4 goals in quick succession before half-time was called.

On resuming play Redsagain attacked, but good play by ’Varsity’s goalkeeper nullified their efforts. For the rest of the spell the Reds were constantly on the attack, and o more goals were registered, making the final score:— Gymnastic 7 University B 1 For Gymnastic goals were scored by Paul (3), Taylor, Hewitt, Foote, and M'Clintock.
