After a heated debate, during which there wore many interjections hostile to the Government fi’om various quarters of the House, Mr Massy Greene agreed to an adjournment. A grave political crisis threatens to develop out of tho debate. [ft waa announced that on March 30 Air Hughes had signed an agreement with Amalgamated Wireless, Limited, for a. direct wireless service between the Commonwealth and tho United Kingdom. The Prime Minister stated that the rates were not to exceed a full rate of 2s per word and a deferred rate of Is per word. Weekend messages would be charged 6d per word, with a minimum of 10s per message. Government messages would be at the rate of Is per word. Press messages fid, and deferred Press messages 3d. Mr Fisk, manager of Amalgamated Wireless, Limited, referring to wireless agreement, explained that it would be two years he fore the centra! feeder stations would' be finished in England and Canada. The main station for overseas traffic would bo three times as powerful ais any European station, and would speak direct over 12,000 miles for the greater part of each day. It would consist of transmitting and receiving stations thirty miles apart, the former covering over a square mile of_ country, with twenty-four towers 800 ft high, and tho latter comprising two wireless masts 200 ft in height.]
