DUNEDIN JOCKEY CLUB.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—The Dunedin Jockey Club is to be congratulated on tho past year’s work, ns submitted by the annual report and bal-ance-sheet just submitted to members. There are two points that should -bo brought forward in the best interests of the club. There is a tendency on tho part of the committee to make tho club’s stewards a close corporation. The system that has prevailed in the pas W-and up to tho present, for tho matter of that—for the whole of the retiring members of committee conjointly to circularise each member asking for their return, is not in tho club’s best Interests. The creation of a ticket staves off competition. Tiro strenuous times ahead behoves the members to ensure the election of the best business heads available. If the old committee is to bo elected over and over again, a process of drift will set in. It is pleasing to note that one gentleman of high _ business standing has come forward, and, if elected, I am confident he will be a valued acquisition to the club. Another matter: How about tho attendance at the committee meetings? _ Do all the members attend all the meetings? A list showing the number of meetings held and tho attendance of the various officers and members of committee would bo of interest to members at tho annual meeting.—l am, etc., Arthur A. Paape.
