[Harry Smith, a worsted spinner of Leeds, and his wife were committed for trial at Edinburgh on a charge of attempting to defraud the Yorkshire Insurance Company. It was that tho accused, after buying Linden Park Mansion, at Hawick, insured the house and contents for £73,000; that they wilfully set it on fire in May, 1921, and claimed £50,000 .from the company.]
