WAITAKI v. OTAGO.
SENIOR TEAMS DRAW.
The annual football matches between the first and second fifteens of tho Otago and Waitaki Boys’ High Schools wore clayed on the Show Grounds, Oamaru, vostei'dav. There was an attendance of some 2,000 spectators, both teams being well supported. Tho senior game was drawn, but Waitaki won the junior match easily. From tho kick-off in tho senior game it was apparent that the Otago backs wore a better combination than these of Waitaki, while the latter’s forwards, who tveraged over a stono heavier than the Otago pack, were to have a good deal to do with tho result of the game. The keenest excitement prevailed throughout, end especially in tho recond half. Wot Aug after the kick-oil m tins spell Wailaki put themselves 6 points m the lead with two penalty goals, and their supporters were jubilant. Then Otago ran up 9 points with three tries, and it was tho turn of tire Blues' supporters to rejoice. At the very last minute Waita.ki scored a try, and supporters of both sides joined in a wild uproar as the teams were carried shoulder-high from the ground. The second spell opened sensationally with two beautiful penalty goals for the home learn by Sumpter. Otago soon retaliated, and Swift (Otago five-eighth) made a good opening, enabling S. Jolly (wing) to score. A little later Swift gave Nicholson (on the other wing) a try, and tho five-eighth presently sent S. Jolly over again. Just on time Duggan scored for Waitaki amid great excitement, the match thus ending with honors easy—9 oil. Tho junior match was won bv Waitaki, 20-6.
