DRUIDISM

The District President of Nos. 1 and 2 districts paid an official visit to Enterprise Lodge on June 28 and installed the various lodge officers. The ceremony was ably performed, and they were heartily thanked. One new member was initiated on behalf of the Otago Lodge. P.A. Bro. Tucker received a vote of thanks for his services in passing through the various chairs,: and it was resolved to place his name on the merit .board and to present him with a framed diploma. Tho secretary read jho half-yearly balance-sheet and auditor’s report on same, which, after some discussion, was adopted, and he was accorded a vote of thanks and confidence. It was ror.olved to enter a team for the Ross Stewart shield competition. The half-yearly meeting of the All Nations’- Lodge was held in the Druids’ Hall, Port Chalmers, on Slay 50, being presided over by V.A. Bro. Timlin. There was a large attendance of members. The election of officers resulted as follows:—A.D., Bro. Timlin; .V.A., Bro. J. Pcri/y; secretary, Bro. C. W. Jacobson; troysurer, Bro. 'LI. M‘Alpine; 1.G., Bro. J. Walker; 0.G., Bro. L. Smith; A.D. Bards, Bros. T. Bray and G. Thompson; V.A. Bards, Bros. R. Loftwitch and D. Harland; minute secretary, Bro. H. C. Reeves; auditors, Bros. 11. Stevens and H. 0. Reeves. It was decided to set tho next meeting apart for impromptu speeches. Bro. L. Smith reported on the euchre tournament and also on the progress of tho crib tournament. It was decided to pay an official visit to Lodge Ivanhoo at their next meeting. Bros. Morris and Mavr, of the Lily of tho Valley, were welcome visitors.

The regular meeting of the All Nations’ Lodge was held in the Druids’ Hall, Port Chalmers, on June 28, and was presided over by A.B. Bro. Timlin. There was a good attendance of members. Sick pay to the amount of £l4 was passed for payment. One candidate was initiated. It was decided to select tho Ross Stewart Shield team next lodge night. Bro. L. Smith reported on the progress of the card, tournament. A committee consisting of tho A. 8., V.A., and 1 Bros. Bray, Thompson, Smith, and Perry was appointed to work up the annual serial. Otago Lodge _ celebrated its forty-second anniversary at its last meeting, A.B. Bro. Muirhead_ being greeted by about 140 brethren, this being a testimony to the desire of the members to further the interests of the society. Various matters, of importance were dealt with in the correspondence, one letter being an acknowledgment from Lady Shnckletnn of a vote of condolence, received through the Mayor of Dunedin. The bards reported on the sick brethren, and sick pay to the amount of £lO 13s 4d wa.s nassad for payment. The installation of officers was held over, owing to the absence of the A, D. -elect. A feature of the evening was tho excellent programme provided by Bros: Brockie. Wilhelmson, Turnbull', Griffiths, Barton. Smith, Walker, Connor, and Collett, this brother officiating at the piano. Bro. Reid proved himself to be an excellent leader, his leading of the community sing providing a great brightness to tho gathering. In addition to the usual loyal toasts tha following were honored :—Grand Lodge (G.P. Bro. Walsh), D.P. No. 1 District (D.P. Bro. Baird), Royal Ardh Chapter (ILA.B. Bro. Lethabv), P.G.P.s (P.G.P. Bro. Ilaymes), P.D.P.s (P.D.P. Bro. Hudson), and The Visiting Brethren, responded to by tho representative of the' various lodges. During tho evening G. Sec. Bro. Steel presented tho Boazley banner to tho lodge for general efficiency, A.B. accepting same on behalf of the lod go. Refreshments were provided and handed round by tho lodge officers. The fortnightly meeting of Linden Lodge was held on Tuesday, June 20, and a good attendance greeted A.B. Bro. M’Fariane. Business commenced at 7.30 to enable tho Royal Arch Chapter to hold an Arch Druid'solo competition. After the minutes were read and confirmed the standing orders_were suspended to enable the officers to initiate two strangers into the rights of Druidism. The ceremony was performed in a very highly and satisfactory manner, tho present officers promise to be m the front rank of efficiency this coming six months. The lodge resuming, business was further suspended to enable tho judges to hold a competition , for the Arch Druid charge. Seven entries were forthcoming, and after a keen competition P.A. Bro. Jelly, Pride of Mornmgton, was declared the winner, with P.A. Bros. Robertson and Workman (of Enterprise Lodge), equal, second. The judge* (P.D.P. Bro. Reid and P.A. Bro. Thompson), after giving their decision, retired, and the lodge then had to initiate another stranger into tho rights of Druidism, an unusual occurrence. Tho correspondence and sick bards’ .report were received and adopted, and Mho sick pay and accounts passed' for payment: Next lodge night tho officers yvnd members will welcome tho Kaikorai Football Club to their lodge room.
