Mr T. Brook, Commissioner of Crown Lands, Invercargill, has been appointed Commissioner at Wellington, in succession to Mr G. H. M‘ Clare, retired on superannuation. Mr R. S, Galbraith, Commissioner of Crown Lands (Westland), succeeds Mr Brook at Invercargill. A Christchurch Association telegram announces the death of Mr Edward William Sea-ger, aged ninety-five. He was one of Canterbury’s early settlers, landing at Lyttelton in 1851. He joined the Police Force, finally becoming inspector for tho district. In 1868 he was appointed officer ia charge of the Mental Hospital at Sunnyside, and held that position for twenty-four years. Mr T. 0. Price went to-day from Dunedin to his farm outside Waimate, and ■will go on to Wellington next week, tho firm in which he is a partner (H. Dawson and Co.) being about to shift from Dunedin to Wellington, Mr R. H. Simons, railway station master at Dunedin, has resumed duty after a holiday spent in Wellington. The Hon. D. T. Fleming came to town from Balclutha to-day. He will be in Wellington by the tune the Legislative ■Council resumes. Mr D. Allan (Wright, Stephenson, and Co.) is to cross Cook Strait to-night, booked for Wellington. Mr M'Cosh Clark (of Archibald Clark and Son) left Dunedin this morning for Auckland, accompanied as far as Christchurch by Mr Howard James, the firm’s South Island representative. Mr and Mrs J, A. Johnstone travelled to Lyttelton to-day, bound for Wellington. Judge Gilfeddor was a passenger for tho North by to-day’s express. The Hon. Topi Putukai went through Dunedin to-day on his way to Wellington. Mr Edward Mann, of Victoria, who has sung twice for the Dunedin Philharmonic Society, will very' likely settle in New Zealand; if so, it will be in Dunedin, A Wanganui Association message records the death of Mr John Stevenson, well known in business circles, and for many years manager of the Wanganui branch of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company. A Sydney cable announces the death of Mr Robert Edward Monorieff, a native of Nelson, and father of Miss Gladys Moncrieff (the well-known actress).
