THE SALARY CUT
HOW ST WORKS OUT. During tho course of the debate on the Address-in-Rcply a good deal was made of the point that the salary cut was uniform over all salaries between £l9O and £BOO. In his speech to-night, the Prim© Minister read tho following table showing exactly how tho cut worked out,' particularly stressing tho faclt that those whose salaries were over £3OO paid income tax as well as suffering through tho cut. Tho reductions work out as follows :
To £l9O, first and second cuts, £ls. £l9l to £320, £25. £321 to £SOO, £3o;,income tax, £ll. £5Ol to £BOO, £35 ; income tax, £36. £9OO, in one reduction, £63; income tax, £7O. £I,OOO, reduction £80; income tax, £56. £1,250, reduction, £113; income tax, £B6.
Officers over £BOO were reduced in full at one stroke, whereas reductions for those of £BOO and below is provided for in three stages, two of which have been made. Even if tho third cut is made an. employee at £l9O is exempt therefrom, and (ho will be reduced no further; but the £BOO a year man may lose another £lO, thus £45 in all, as compared with £ls in all for the £l9O employee.—Press Association.
