NEW ZEALAND METROPOLITAN TROTS.

CHRISTCHURCH, July 14. The nominations received for tho August meeting of tho New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club are exceptionally largo, and it appears certain that the fields at Addington for the firet meeting of the new season will eclipse all previous records for tho course. Nominations total 719, or an average practically of thirty for each race. Class is represented, nearly all the best performers from the local stables being engaged. There is also a strong contingent from. Auckland, while the Sydney trainer, IV .J. Tompkinson, who ifi expected to arrive here next week, has eight of his horses nominated for various events. TAIERI BOWLING CLUB. Tho annual meeting of tho Taieri Bowling Club was well attended, and the past year’s operations reviewed with satisfaction, both regarding tho standard and success of the play and the excellent financial position. Dr Spudding is the now president, and an enthusiastic body of officebearers supports liim. Tho secretary is still Mr J. A. MTvinnou, and his management of tho club’s affairs in the past is guarantee of a successful year for 1922-23. The meeting decided’ on supporting tournaments both at Christmas and Easter. It was decided to register the club as an incorporated body, also to insure members’ bowls against fire. MINIATURE RIFLE SHOOTING. A match between teams from the North-end. and Speight’s was fired on, tho central range last evening. A very keen contest resulted as follows ; North End; Bruce and Wignall, 99; Crimp, Cameron, and Millward, 97; Grant Gallon, and Steele 95; Ogg and Dolphin, 95—total 967. iSpcights : Grant, 99; Pettot, 98; D. Smith and Dippie, 97; Eckhold and G. Smith, 96; Malcolmsou and Tall, 95; Paterson and Davis, sen., 94—total 961. A Melbourne cable states that tho Victorian Athletic Association lias agreed that New Zealand shall meet Australia every two years ns separate countries for the Australasian athletic championship. Tho visiting team is to finance the tour. Events will bo iimited to nine or ten in number. A mail vote is to lie taken to ascertain the views of the other States.
