THE WINTER SHOW
RECORD ENTRIES RECEIVED. GREAT DEMAND FOE SPACE, The annual Winter Show of the Otago A. and I*. Society will be doi clarod officially open by ilio Priino Minister (the Right Hon. W. F. Massey) in His Majesty’s Theatre at 2.15 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30. The entries for the show have far exceeded all expectations and the twenty-two ladies and gentlemen who are acting in the capacity of judges will commence their task at an early hour on Tuesday morning, in the hope of having judging completed by tho time of opening the show. A mooting of tho committee was hold this morning, Mr E. 0. Hazlott (president) presiding over a good attendance. The president reported what had been done at tho weekly mootings, and expressed tho opinion that the idea of holding weekly meetings was an advantage to all concerned. A considerable amount, of correspondence and details wore dealt with in connection with the forthcoming show'. The N.Z. •.Sheep-breeders’ Federation offered two silver shields for competition at tho Winter Show.—Tho oifer was accepted with thanks, and the matter referred to the. Sheep Commit too to make .arrangements. The Department of Agriculture wrote notifying the officers it had appointed to judge dairy produce, fruit, and roots. Cnrrespondenco was read from the Railway Department with respect to railway arrangements for the show.— ’ Tho .secretary was inslrncted to request tho Traffic Manager to run two expresses to Invercargill during show week. Information was received that a conference of delegates from the various A. and P. Societies between Christeburch and Invercargill would bo bold at Dunedin on the morning of June 1. Tho Finance Commit tee reported fnllv upon the arrangements it had made in connection with the temporary appointment of Mr F. F. Dnthie as acting-secretary of the show. ITis position was fully delhied. enabling him to carry on in other matters in which he is interested. The Space Committee reported, that, owing to the large number of entries received, especially in live stock, it bad been eornnollod |q ask some exhibitors to withdraw and others to reduce the space that had been allotted them. Most ol the exhibitors cheerfully met the request of the committee. In tho meantime, with the exception of a few, the committee hoped to provide space for all who had applied. The Musical Commit ho reported that tho services of the Ist Otago TTegt, Band, the Highland Pino Band, and Death’s Orchestra, had been obtained for Show Week. Arrangements were; made with Mrs Winter for catering required during the week. Air .las. Smith gave notice of motion as follows for the annua] meeting:— “That rule 11 he amended | 0 provide for the reliving president io remain a member of the General Committee for tho ensuing year.”
