SATURDAY’S HARRIERS
The Dunedin Anglican Harrier Club held its one-mile novice handicap at St. Kilda, when twenty runners faced .the starter. The course waa along Victoria read as far as the main gate at Forbury Park and back to the waiting shed. Messrs B. R. M'Kornan and A. L. Burk had' charge of tho time-keeping, while tho judges wore Messrs P. W. Breen, £. S. Gale, and 0. 11. Luokhurafc, Tho race was a very good contest, and from tho start SherriS (lOscc) set out arid made a very hot pace, closely followed by the limit men on Msec. When the turning point was reached Sherrift had a lead of about 50yds on Davies (Msec), who was closely followed by Rothweli (ISsoc) and Perry (scr), with Onnrod (scr) coming np strongly- Sherxiff maintained his lead until about 30yds from home, when Onnrod camo up and ran in a winner by about three yards from Storrie (scr), who came away with a good sprint at the finish, and just beat Bhetriff. Result: H Orrnrod (scr) 1, T. G. Stmiio (scr) 2, R. Sherriff (lOsec) 5. Time, smin 22see. After the. race a short chib run was held, and about twenty-five' members turned nut under Captain Gale and Deputies M’Mil]an and Rolfe. Tho course was along through the lupins to Lawyer's Head and over to Tomahawk Beach and back to the Bungalow. A fast run was commenced about 500yds from home, and in Gale, Rolfe, Edmond, and Boddy arriving in that order. The Cargill. Road Methodist Hamers ran from Hinkley’s Bay to Portobello. The pack, under the whistle of tho captain, A. ’ Adie, left the ferry boat at Hinkloy's Bay, and followed the main road to Portobello, arriving there a few seconds before the boat. Tho Civil Service. Harriers ran from Anderson Bay School. Paper war, dispensed with, and the pack, under Captain, Bond went along the low road, and, skirting the lulls above Macandrcw’s Bay. took tho road to Tomahawk. The trail then led homeward, and a fast pace was mam tained. 1 The Pacific Hamers ran from the St. Clair Baths, about thirty members faking part. The trail, laid by M. aiifU! ; IB!!, fed up tho Clift’s road, pa.st Cargill’s Castle and along the lace of the cliffs to Blackhead, theme over towards Burnside, cveutuallv turning up past tho golf links end down tho Jacob's Ladder steps to Valpy street. The St. Kilda Harriers held their annual mile and a-half novice race, four starting. During the race two competitors took the wrong trail, which had been interfered with by some children. This pave A. Macdonald a lead which he kept throughout the whole race. A protest was entered. Under Captain C. Burgess and Deputy G. Drowett, the Y.M.C.A. Harriers made their first run, The course extended along Queen's Drive to Woodhaugh, up round the reservoir, through Roslyn and Highgate, to home. The run was both clean” and suitable for a beginning. On returning home a most enjoyable tea was provided by tho Y.NV.C.A. ladies.
