An inquiry into the Calcuta gaol mutiny olifitod Hint two Hindu and live Mohammedan convicts were killed and about forty convicts and gaolers wounded. The troops have been withdrawn, but armed police arc guarding the neighborhood. One escaped convict was recaptured Yesterday,—A. and N.Z. Cable. April 29. (Received May ,1. at 8.55 a.m.) Fire started in Calcutta GaM during the riot and destroyed the workshops. the estimated damage is three lakhs of rupees. The situation is fairly quiet, but the convicts are truculent. The gaol authorities have resumed control, but soldiers arc retained in case of further trouble. Forty-sis convicts were sent to hospital with gunshot wounds. Nineteen ©scaped during the turmoil, but two were roa misted. COMPASSIONATE ALLOWANCE. DELHI, April 28. The Madras Government has sanctioned a compassionate grant of 3CO rupees to the families of seventy Moplahs who lost their Jives in the train asphyxiating tragedy.—A. and N.Z. Reports from Simla elate, that it has been decided that all British otiicers and men, irrespective of their unit, who served in India during the war shall bo eligible for the British war medal, whether they entered the war theatre or not.—A. and N..Z.
