HORATIO BOTTOMLEY
COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. Pres* Association— By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, April 26. Horatio Bottomley was committed for trial in tho Victory Bonds casc.^. When tho magistrate intimated that ho would commit Horatio Bottomley, the latter requested an adjournment to enable him to consider whether to call evidence or to make a- statement. The case, was adjourned until Saturday. —A. and X.Z. Cable. During the hearing of One. two fresh charges against Horatio Bottomley, M.D., in the Police Court on March 23, Mr Cohen, a solicitor, gave evidence that Bottomley asked him to negotiate the purchase of two Sunday evening newspapers. Bottomley produced £IOO,OOO worth of Victory bonds, and told him to obtain an advance from the Ho thus obtained £65,500, and later reminded Bottomley that tho price of tho bonds was falling. Bottomley told him to -sell £70,000 worth, which realised £57,800, and Bottomley paid in to the bank £25.000. Finally Cohen drew out tho balance of tho cash and ga.vo it to Bottom ly, who scut him a cheque for £1,650 drawn on tho Victory Bond" Club.
An official of tho French bank, Credit Lyonnais, gave evidence that Bottemky opened a private personal account for transactions in Victory bonds, involving hundreds of thousands of pounds. Ills speculations in French securities also involved hundreds of thousands. Ono payment in cash tallied with tho amount which a stockbroker realised by the sale of £IOO,OOO wortli of bonds. _ In the two new charges against BottomIcy, referred to above, it was .alleged that lie took £15,000 from an account of which ho was a trustee, and the purpose of which was to purchase the former German submarine Deutschland, and that ho fraudulently converted to his own use £IOO.OOO represented hy allotment letters from the Bank of England with respect to Victory bonds.
