SOUTH AND NORTH DELEGATES TO MEET. An extraordinaiy general meeting of the South Island Dairy Association win; held yesterday to discuss the possibility of establishing a compulsory pool to handle, tho whole of the export of butter and cheese. Mr .1. R. Thacker presided. Most of the argument revolved round tho point whether the pool should be, a dominion pool or whether there should ho separate North Island and South Is.and 1 pools. A motion was moved by Mr Agar as follows : —“That this meeting is of opinion that an improved system of marketing is not only desirable, but necessary in the interests of dairy producers, but is of opinion that a- dominion pool .is undesirable, and that the interests of the South Island can he served best by a h'onth Island pool of all dairy produce; and that we offer to co-operate with tires North both, here and in London, but insist upon retaining control of our produce.” Mr Parker moved as an amendment—''That in the opinion of this meeting a dominion pool is a very desirable tiling.” The mover said that his intention was that the scheme should he a compulsory scheme. On a ballot being taken the amendment was carried by 45 votes to 41. On tho amendment wing put at (be motion another ballot was called frr This resulted in the motion being lost Ly *ls votes to 44. Mr Bowman then mov'd and Mr Agar seconded--" That a, eonruUtse ol live be set up to meet delegates Horn lie Ndth Island and discuss all the phases of tho pool and report to the annual meeting of the association.”—The motion was -arried, . It was resolved that two representatives of the cheese factories and two representatives of tho butter factories, with the chairman of tho association, be the committee. The committee chosen consisted of Messrs Thacker, Agar, Cartwright, Bmith, and Bowman.
