Aa the last meeting of Linden- Lodge followed closely on tno Easter holidays, the attendance of members was not numerous, but there was a, good representation of visiting brethren. N.G. Bro. M. K. Glover presided. Business was principally confined' to the passing of sickbay ami receiving reports from tho Visiting Committee. -A candidate was proposed for admission to benefit membership at the next meeting, when the syllabus item _is “Young Members’ Night.” A notification was received from the Boslyn branch of tho Workers’ Educational Association setting out the course of study about to commence. Tho brethren learned with regret that bereavement had befallen a wellknown member of tho order, and tho lodge's sympathy was directed to bo extended. Representatives from practically tho whole of tho Dunedin 1.0.0. F. lodges conveyed greetings, and an apology was forthcoming from the Phtenix Encampment for tho postponement of an official visit. The monthly meeting of tho Phoenix Encampment opened at 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 6, Chief Patriarch. J. MTyor being the presiding officer. It was with great regret that tho members hoard of the death of tho Grand Sire of Toronto, Canada, as intimated by P.O. Pat. 1). M. Miller,- but so far no official word has come to hand to this encampment. Advice was also received hearing on tho death of the mother of a highly-respected member, Past Ch. Pat. Ripley, andi on the motion of Past Cii. Pat. Johnston tho encampment decided to fiend P.C, Pat. Ripley a letter of condolence expressing the sympathy of the members. There being three candidates—Patriarchs Birrell, M’Alpinc, and Somerville—in wafting, tho members decided to confer Dio third degree. This was carried out, the candidates being exalted to the royal purple degree. P.G. Pat. Shore then moved and Pat. Deeds seconded that the camp visit. Linden Lodge officially on the, 18th. inst. On this motion, being put before tho patriarchs it was carried'. Tho meeting closed in due form.
The monthly meeting of the'South Otago District Lodge, held on Thursday last, and presided over by D.D.G.M. Bro. J. Skinner, was very largely attended. The meeting opened 1 , early to. allow of routine business being transacted argd degrees conferred prior to the annual installation of officers. This ceremony was carried out by the D.D.G.M., assisted by Grand Treasurer Bro. L. D. Ritchie, P.G.M.s Bro. i). M. Miller and A. H. Valentine, and R.D.D.G.M.s Bros. I). Swinton and 11. 11. Johnson, The follow big officers were placed 1 in the different chairs for tho next term:—l.P.D.M., Bro. J. MTvor; DAE, Bro. W. Ripley, P.D.D.G.M,; D.D.M., Bro. C. Bolton, P.G.; secretary, lira. Ja-s. Beaton, P.G.; treasurer,, Bro. W. Smith, P.D.D.G.M. ; warden, Bro. M. K. Glover, P.G.; conductor, Bro. 11. Lnscombe, P.G. j chaplain, Bro. W. Spencer, P.G.; guardian, Bro. W. Winefiekl, P.G. ; first assistant, Bro. W. Campbell, P.D.M.; second assistant, Bro. R. Kirkharn, P.G.; third assistant, Bro. L. Robinson, N.G.; fourth assistant, Bro. J. Shore, P.D.M. Arrangements were made to visit Hereweka Lodge on May 6, when degrees will be conferred by the degree officers. At the next meeting of the Kensington Juvenile Lodge an official visit will bo paid by the D.D.G.M., officers, and members of the District Lodge. Tho visitors’ vote was acknowledged by P.G. Bro. Allen (Sydney) and P.G. Bro. Clearwater (Hcreweka). -
