,SOUTHERN SUCCESSES. [Special to the 'Star.’] CHRISTCHURCH, April 26. At the competitions Mr J. Harper, of Gore won the reading at sight contest.. Miss Jenny Griffiths (Dunedin) was among the unsuccessful competitors. In the final of the Shakespearean recitation for ladies (open class), Miss Olive Thomas, Dunedin (80 marks), was first; Miss Eileen Carter, Christchurch (78), second; Miss Bertha Cross, Wellington (77), third. Miss Ivy Shearer (Dunedin) was among tho unsuccessful competitors.
