The North Canterbury Executive m the Farmers’ Union had before it to-day a communication from lire Christchurch Roy Scouts’ local association asking for a. contribution to its funds, and that the executive appoint a. representative on the association. Mr \V. A. Banks, chairman, said l that the Boy iScout movement was a tirsi-ratc one. Vi hen ho look the oath the .Hoy Scout promised to do one pood action every day. That was a. great gain, for the way boys wore growing up now there was very little government over them by their parents or anyone else, 'lire movement was doing a. lot of rmod and bringing boys up with good intentions Mr D. Bates said that lie would' like to make the subscription a substantial one, but that was more than their finances could stand. It was a movement that all men with the interests of the nation at heart should support. Brigadier-general Andrew was taking an active part in the movement, and when lie approached him (the speaker) lie had readily acquiesced in giving a, subscription. The men who were giving their time and energy to the movement'should get some encouragement. Mr Or. W. Headley said the movement deserved every encouragement. ‘‘l have hero,” he continued, “ a pamphlet showing "the effect of the Socialist Sunday school movement, and the teaching given in some of these schools is something to make your hair lire.” The Chairman (interrupting) : “I. would rather not go into that question.” Mr Lendley: it lias a bearing on this question. The Chairman : T cannot take it. 'Mr Lcadloy said that the pamphlet, slated that the Socialist boy must not be and should not be a Scout.. A boy .should not salute the Union .Jack. Mr Bales: We are going to meet that. Mr Leadlcy said I lie Boy Scout movement was the way to meet it. It was decided to vote £2 2s to theassociation, and Mr Bates was appointed; to represent the union on the. association. Mr Bate.'.: I will lie very pleased to accept. It is a, movement 1 would .sacrifice a great deal to help.
