Wednesday, April 26. (Before Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M.) A DESERTER. Albert Edward Bloss Bix, a stoker on IT.M.S, Chatham, was charged with (at Bevonport. Auckland) being absent from the vessel'without leave. Sub-inspector Ecclcs said that accused was arrested yesterday at W-aitaii. Ho had been posted as a deserter. Accused was remanded until Friday next, in order to give the polios an opportunity of ascertaining the whereabouts of the vessel. REMANDED. Alexander Ramsay was charged' with failing to provide (at Kaitangatn) _ adequate maintenance for His illegitimate child. Mr Irwin, for defendant, said that tho young man was prepared to consent to on order. He had offered to marry the girl, but her parents objected. He had also consented to provide for tho child, but the pirl’s people would not take anything from him. A remand was granted until Friday, bail being allowed in one surety of £SO. DRUNKENNESS. A first offender was fined 10s. in -default forty-eight hours’ imprisonment. MAINTEN ANCE. On tho application of tho wife, a separation and maintenance order of £1 a week was granted against Leonard Charles Jefcoats, with solicitor’s foe. (£2 2s). —Mr Hay appeared for the complainant and Mr Irwin for tho defendant.
