BATHS.
TO THE EDITOR.
Sir,—Tho city fathers in- their wisdom closed down the Turkish, baths because of the, alleged lack of support. This latter was caused by inefficient management, and tho bln mo must rest on tbs City Council, for during the coal shortage tho supply of coke was slopped for a considerable period and no notice was given to the puolic. I myself went along numbers, of times to fin'd that there was nothing doing. Later, when the supply of coke- again came along, no notification" war, made to tho public: later the baths were closed—for want of support. These, bulbs are of great benefit to" the older section of the community, and if His Worship tho Mayor would lake a lead in His Knitter ami convene a. meeting of those interested 1 am confident a
guarantee would be forthcoming to moke them pay their way. With reference to tho St. Clair Baths, the new building reflects credit on the council. It is unfortunate, however, that when this was erected provision not mad© for a room for the masseur. This man is doing a fine work among the afflicted, as dozens of patients can testify, and he is deserving of every encouragement. His room consists of a bit of tho vestibule partitioned off, and this is not half as largo as it should be. Tho _ curetaker’s house—-now vacant for some tire©— is not fit for human habitation, is an eyesore, and should he demolished. If it belonged to a private individual it would bo promptly condemned. Considerable attention is being given to memorials, statues, and balloon loops. “ Cleanliness is next to godliness,” and proper bathing facilities should receive first consideration. It is to be hoped that in tho near future provision will be made at St. Clair for the erection of a new caretaker’s residence, to include proper accommodation for the masseur. Ibo swimming pool is available for the robust for but a short period, consequently the hot sea baths, are tho jshief source of revenue.—l am, etc., Arthur A. Paapb. March 30.
